Stycons: Olivia Palermo

This month's Stycon (or style icon) is Olivia Palermo.

Also known as the MTV's The City villain, she is one of New York's socialite. And a very stylish one!
What I love about Olivia is that she mixes and matches and accessorizes to the perfection (yes a goodlooking boyfriend counts as an accessory)!

Whether she's strolling around the Meat Packing District streets, attending a charity event, store opening, brand launching, working at Elle Magazine, or what have you she's got what I like to call a 'perfectly-put-together-look', it looks easy on her but it would look overworked on anyone of us.

Just see for yourself...

Stycons : June Ambrose

In the fashion industry, some people inspire us, some put us off, but I’m not one to hate someone’s attempt at being stylish, because if Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, same goes with Fashion and Style.
I thought every once in a while I’d share with you my favourite style icons, or ‘stycons’ as I like to call them, because they’re an important source of inspiration and some are even role models and fashionesque godmothers.
This month’s stycon is JUNE AMBROSE.

For those of you that don’t know June Ambrose, she is a costume designer and personal wardrobe stylist to Jay-Z, Chrisette Michelle, Rihanna (pre-Umbrella era), Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall, Kelly Ripa, Jazmine Sullivan amongst many others. She’s also Creative Director (or Style Architect as Jay-Z dubbed her) of Rocawear, just as she was for Missy Elliott’s Adidas Collection for 4 consecutive seasons.

As if it wasn’t enough, she actually wrote a book “Effortless Style” in 2006, and has been taking part in multiple TV shows where she was a consultant and gave precious styling tips.

June Ambrose also gives very interesting styling tips on her hilarious YouTube channel where she takes us with her on her fashionesque journeys (from Target to high end Department Stores). They’re a MUST WATCH.

I think that June Ambrose has definitely left her mark on the Hip Hop industry, bringing high fashion to a genre mostly known for low – budget, street looks.

She has a unique sense of personal style, an infectious personality and a creative eye that enables her to create amazing looks.
June Ambrose, the Opulent, Decadent, Distinguished Style Architect. ( In her own words & I couldn’t agree more)
_____________

Robyn's Body Talk

I love music. Whatever the genre, I just love it. Whatever my mood. Unfortunately I don't BUY as much music as I'd like too, because albums nowadays are a budget, and I'm kinda picky when it comes to music, so I only buy what's good, from track 1 to hidden track. For example if possible I would only buy Beyonce's I Am...Sasha Fierce's album at half price, cause I literally only like the Sasha Fierce part. But I digress...

I recently bought Robyn’s Body Talk Part I album, without even listening to it (oooh risky !!)…Well not so much. So please let me do a full review of it so you can go get your copy. Or not.

1. Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do

That song sounds really The Hills/The City soundtrack. It’s a sort of electronic hymn that’s relatable and, it’s obviously more melody-oriented, than lyrically-wise with a repeatedly “ My drinking is killing me, my smoking is killing, your nagging is killing me, my record’s killing me, my mother’s killing me…”, actually it’s just a rebellious teenager kind of tune. Main message: “You’re killing me, don’t fucking tell me what to do.”

2. Fembot

Reminds me a lot of the Konichiwa album, sounds like a video game. Robyn sings a lot more on this one, and it definitely sounds like HER, and no one else, which I absolutely love.

Apparently the autotune isn’t dead at all, but then again, it completely fits the Fembot (as in female-robot) theme of the song, so it’s relevant.

3. Dancing On My Own

Robyn’s vocal range at it’s best. Fell in love with this song at 00:35 into it. Robyn is as heartbroken as she was in her previous album’s track “Be Mine!” only this time she sounds stronger. I can definitely relate to that song. The instrumental sounds very 80s – early 90s-ish.

Great post-breakup hymn for all the broken hearted girls who are dancing on their own. Just like me. I just love her ability to turn a sad song into a dancing tune. The only living legend to be able to properly do so would be…Madonna (Don’t Tell Me, Miles Away,…) and those are big shoes to fill. Good job Robyn!

4. Cry When You Get Older

Nice catchy pop song. Someone’s probably going to use that one in a commercial or something. Just another “love sucks and we all agree” kind of song.

5. Dancehall Queen

Fell in love with this one at 00:22! Dancehall/Reggae/Electro/Pop mashup with our very own Swedish Robyn’s sweet voice. She got the “riddim”, the gimmicks and everything, I think it’s a tribute to her influences. It’s an easy listening song. I wasn’t expecting this, so I smiled and shook my hips while travelling from Stockholm to Kingston. Feel good song. Loved it.

6. None Of Dem

This one’s dark. I love Robyn’s accent on this one, but that’s about it, I was a dancehall queen 2 seconds ago and now I feel bored to death. Great vocal arrangements but I’m not impressed with the rest of it. Actually at around 2:30 the song irritates me, but I’m waiting to be impressed at some point…or not.

7. Hang With Me [Acoustic Version]

Robyn’s a great live artist. Her forte is definitely acoustic, no autotune, no nothing, just flawless Robyn. I can relate to this song so lovely, it makes me smile. It’s soft but strong, rough but touchy, the kind of romantic comedy song that we all love to hate in public, but that we really secretly love cause we want to be that heroin.

It’s a good song to start a relationship. Well I believe it is.

8. Jag Vet en Dejlig Rosa
Very good way to end the album. It’s a traditional Swedish song about flowers, sounds like a lullaby.Lovely, very fairytale-like. I want Part II of the album.I love it.

Clothes Make The Music II

Marina &The Diamonds

I love Marina & The Diamonds, even if at first, I couldn’t figure out who the heck ‘The Diamonds’ are. Well, there are no diamonds guys, her name is Marina Diamandis and she’s Greek & Welsh. See…even that fact is cool about her. I first assumed for some reason that she was from the US, or Australia or something…but she’s from Wales, which isn’t that exotic when you’re from Brussels.

I admire her mixing & matching skills as well as her musical talent cause she doesn’t dress, neither does she sing like anyone else.

__

M.I.A.

M.I.A. isn’t ‘Missing In Action’ at all! (Listen to Amazon if you haven’t already and you’ll get the reference I just subtly dropped). Her style screams everything but ‘shy & introverted’ and I believe that she’s here to last. She’s definitely one of the best spokesperson of ‘fashion meets music’, and was known for rocking Andrea Crews designs before everyone else did at the eve of her successful career. Even when she was pregnant she didn’t deny her love for fashion and took her sense of personal style to a whole new level! You gotta love M.I.A.,…well I know I do!

__

M.I.A. est loin d’être ‘Missing In Action’ !

_____

Some folks compare her to Amy Winehouse, and as a huge fan of both their works I don’t think they’re comparable at all. Before being the V.V. Brown we all know and love (the singer – songwriter that is), she wrote & composed tracks for others, (…) and when it comes to fashion, just like me she fell right into it when she was a little girl. So it’s only obvious that today she mixes those two: she’s always ‘fashionforward’ (those YSL pumps in the Game Over video) and also has her very own fashionesque website specialized in vintage wear. The website idea came from the recurrence of the same question over & over again: “What/Who are you wearing?”, it’s a nice go-to website if you’re a vintage clothing lover.

Not only is she a fashionesque singer, but the multi-talented V.V. Brown is also launching her very own Comic book in a few weeks now…To be continued.

Lady Gaga

But does an artist need to change the wardrobe in order to attract a wider crowd? Stefani Germanotta has always been talented if you ask me. But she changed her wardrobe, her name, AND her fan base too, becoming the successful Gaga some go cuckoo for! The smartest marketing move so far…she sells while the rest of the industry suffers…Congrats!

__

Joli coup marketing ce new look…Bravo !
